August 10, 2020 – EON Reality, a provider of augmented and virtual reality-based knowledge and skills transfer for industry and education, has recently announced that Los Angeles City College (LACC) is the latest academic institution to begin using its VR and AR solutions.
The company stated that the new endeavor marks one of the biggest agreements of its kind for EON Reality in Southern California, where the company is based. As a result of the deal, LACC’s 19,000+ students and faculty members will be able to create, use, and distribute fully interactive and immersive VR and AR lessons both while functioning remotely and upon returning to the classroom. EON Reality added that things were made possible through the work of the college and the Los Angeles City College Foundation.
Robert Schwartz, Executive Director, Los Angeles City College Foundation, said: “The LACC Foundation has established itself as a leader among the community college foundations in California. Our involvement with EON Reality’s association with the College is yet another instance of our Foundation bringing a tremendous opportunity to the students and faculty of LACC. We are proud to have played a role in creating this partnership.”
Due to LACC’s role in both academic and vocational training accessibility throughout the area, EON Reality stated that it believes the new partnership will be invaluable for the presence of the company’s flagship AVR Platform in both California, as well as across the US. The company added that LACC has the potential to become “one of the leading North American power users of EON Reality’s flagship service.”
In addition to its own usage, LACC will also be able to contribute to the academic VR and AR lesson-creation goals for the entire English-speaking world, adding to the AVR Platform’s existing library and helping it to continue to grow with any experiences distributed by the college.
“Being able to partner with a local institution like LACC during a time of crisis for so many students and educators is truly a blessing for us. We have done so much to make our products and services available to those who need them around the world, but now EON Reality can make a significant difference in our own backyard. I certainly hope that this is the beginning of a long and bountiful relationship and would love to look at expanding in any way possible”, said Dan Lejerskar, EON Reality’s Founder.
As academic institutions are looking at VR and AR remote learning possibilities as a means to help improve educational standards both from home and once classrooms are allowed to open again, EON Reality states that it has shifted its focus to be easier to use and more accessible for instructors and students. By enabling end-users with tools such as a full-time customer support team as well as a self-help Resource Center, institutions like LACC are able to utilize the company’s AVR Platform to fit any needs they may have both during and after the beginning of the reopening process.
Commenting on EON Reality’s solution, Dr. Mary Gallagher, Los Angeles City College President, said: “LACC is so excited to have this technology available to our faculty and our students. This remarkable tool will enhance the learning for all of our students, beginning with our Nursing Program students. We look forward to bringing more of these technology tools to our students for super-enhanced learning. Ever since my first demo of this amazing system, I knew I had to bring it to the faculty and students of LACC.”
